Our Mission:
Metro Psychotherapy and Counseling's mission is to help individuals live their most meaningful lives and become their best selves regardless of the situation.
Our Approach To Therapy:
Acceptance Commitment Therapy:
A newer evidence-based intervention that combines aspects of acceptance and mindfulness approaches with behavior-change strategies, in an effort to help people develop psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility is the ability to do what is important to us and be the person we want to be in the face of difficult thoughts, emotions, sensations and urges. We help our clients identify how their efforts to suppress or control emotional experiences can create barriers in their life. The rationale is that accepting feelings such as anxiety, fear, frustration, and anxiety are crucial as they are vital experiences that if used appropriately, can help us lead a more fulfilling and rich life. This can be a transformative experience because it changes the relationship you have with thoughts, emotions, memories, sensations, and unwanted urges.
2. Cognitive Behavior Therapy:
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a evidenced-based intervention that strives to identify and change the dysfunctional thoughts that impact our emotions, which ultimately drives our behavior. Whether there is a problematic behavior or you are having an emotional difficulty, we can use CBT to change the way you see yourself, others, and your environment and/or develop healthier behaviors that help you live a more fulfilling life. It has been proven to be helpful with anxiety, depression, phobia, and anger. By helping you identify problematic and unhelpful thoughts, we help you develop the skills to change them, changing the way you feel about yourself, others, and/or environment.

Bipolar disorder is characterized by significant mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). These fluctuations can affect sleep, energy levels, behavior, judgment, and the ability to think clearly. Episodes of mood swings may occur rarely or multiple times a year, and while most individuals will experience some emotional symptoms between episodes, some may not experience any.
Our approach to supporting individuals with bipolar disorder focuses on stability and balance. We aim to help clients understand their patterns, recognize early warning signs of mood shifts, and develop strategies to maintain equilibrium. Our practice offers couples therapy and individual therapy to address a wide range of relationship issues, including issues with communication, physical intimacy, emotional connection, trust and infidelity, and parenting and family dynamics. Phobias manifest as persistent and excessive fears triggered by specific objects, situations, or activities. These fears often provoke immediate anxiety responses, leading individuals to avoid the source of their distress at great personal cost. We help people struggling with phobias feel less alone in their fear. We help our clients recognize where our phobias stem from and why our brain’s create anxiety and the sense of panic around fear.
